Where is it?
Place de la Mairie
Located in the historic Rennes town center just 3.5 km from the Hotel Isidore, the Rennes Opera House is one of the smallest opera houses in France, with an Italian style main hall that can seat 650 guests.
The Rennes Opera House first opened its doors to the public on February 29, 1836 and is renowned for its unique structure which is part of a mammoth complex that houses apartments, galleries, shops, and outdoor cafés. Originally criticized for its round shape and 2nd-floor orchestra, its roof, facade, and ceiling decoration have been considered historical monuments since 1975.
Each season, the Rennes Opera House holds 30 performances based on a repertoire that spans four centuries, with artists ranging from Monteverdi to contemporary composers. The Rennes Opera House has something for everyone, whether you’re looking for classical music, world music, or to discover the opera for the very first time.
It is open to those who wish to take a look around inside, attend a rehearsal or performance, or even sing along with the choir during one of its “Ça va mieux en le chantant” concerts!
Tip: From the Hotel Isidore, the C6 bus will get you there in just 20 minutes!
